Climbing MonkeyUsing VR to Assist Rock Climbing

Overview
Beginner climbers often struggle to receive effective guidance: instructors explain weight shifting and hand placements from a third-person perspective, yet these instructions can be difficult to follow when novices are climbing from a first-person view. Routes that appear clear from the ground also become difficult to distinguish once on the wall.

To address this gap between third-person instruction and first-person experience, I designed a VR-assisted climbing application that provides intuitive first-person guidance during climbs. The system also allows users to leave notes on specific routes, offering practical cues for subsequent climbers to better understand movements and path choices.

Mobile App DesignThe mobile app enables users to load route-specific guidance data for different climbing venues. Climbers can also record their own first-person climbing footage and attach annotated notes directly to holds, allowing future climbers to access these notes while climbing.
